AAPI Joint MBA Judges Panel
May 2, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 5p.m. at WSBA Conference Center
A panel of judges gathered via a collaboration with ABAW, SABAW, FLOW, SCBA, and VABAW. Attendees had the privilege of learning from our very own Judge John H. Chun (U.S. District Judge, U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington & KABA President Emeritus) and Judge Janet Chung (Court of Appeals Judge, Washington Court of Appeals, Division I) along with Justice Mary Yu (Justice, Washington Supreme Court), Judge Ketu Shah (Presiding Judge, King County Superior Court), and Judge Tana Lin (U.S. District Judge, U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington), who generously shared their insights, experiences, and reflections from the bench. It was a meaningful opportunity to hear from trailblazing judges who were among the first in Washington’s AAPI legal community to serve on the bench.
This event was also a wonderful example of the strength of unity among our affinity bar associations and the power of community. Thank you, Jordan Wada (ABAW President), Mario Cava (FLOW President-Elect), Chris Chang (KABA President Emerita), Joanne Kalas (VABAW President Emerita), Jae Pak (ABAW Community Liaison), Damong Pang (ABAW President-Elect), Michelle Pham (VABAW President Emerita), Odette Polintan (FLOW President), Sally Shi (SCBA President), Shashi Vijay (SABAW President), Sophie Ying (SCBA Board Member), Tricia Charfauros (UW Law Student & Moderator), and Mingyue Zhou (SU Student & Moderator) for making it possible.

On May 31st, KABA held its first joint immigration clinic with the Korean Community Service Center (KCSC). The clinic was a tremendous success, thanks to the leadership of KABA Board Members, Jinkyoo Lee and Jessica Park, and the dedicated efforts of seven volunteer attorneys, two law students, and our valued partners at KCSC. Together, they provided naturalization assistance to 16 community members.

On Monday, November 10, KABA held a community town hall in partnership with KCSC and KAC-WA at the Consulate General of Korea. Together, we discussed recent immigration developments and provided education and resources to our community. Since forming our Korean American Immigration Task Force earlier this year, we have been working intentionally to expand outreach and deepen community engagement. We look forward to continuing this work, including another town hall meeting in Tacoma next month.

KABA also hosted another successful Student Mock Interview at Fisher & Phillips, LLP on November 13. Thank you to all of the volunteer attorneys who generously shared their time and expertise to support the next generation of Korean American law students. We are excited to see these students grow and thrive. A special thank-you to Fisher & Phillips for their continued partnership and sponsorship—this event would not have been possible without their support.
